Advice Don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors today

Just measured my bedroom smoke detector's current draw... 12uA. 450mAh energizer industrial alkaline / 12uA = 37500 hours = 1562.5 days = 4.2 years.

6 months? fuck that.

I imagine this varies from detector to detector though, possibly substantially.

I think the concern is that people generally buy those 10 for $1 dollar store batteries with top notch Chinese sweat shop "quality control".

I think the reason the campaign to change batteries in your smoke detector is because no one changes them and ignores the beeping sound. I've lost count how many homes and apartments I've been into where the smoke detectors were beeping.
