From what I remember reading/seeing on the idiot box, three people were charged. Amanda Knox, her Italian boyfriend and the psycho who did the actual killing/murder. The prosecutor has a history of using wacko motives/theories in high profile murder cases.

The prosecutor has also been convicted of corruption charges, some related to this case, but he was able to complete this case because his charges are on appeal.
