WTF $5/Gallon?

The only NG passenger car available in the US is about $6500 more than the comparatively equipped Civic. Then there is the cost of the refueler for home because most stations don't have it. That's a few thousand as well.

Oh and 30hp less but 200 lbs heavier.

Chicken and the egg.

No one wants to invest in infrastructure because there are no cars. No one wants to buy the cars, because there is no infrastructure. Afaik, the only ones who use LPG are large companies that can install the infrastructure themselves.

No cars? You can extremely easily convert any petrol car to LPG. Also it doesn't have to give up petrol either. Once converted, you can switch between petrol and LPG on the fly.

Any why would anyone pay for that, when there's no infrastructure to use it?

And that leads to another thing. Consumers are lazy. They aren't going to use a "green" product if its more complicated than whatever they are using now.

2 good points.

There are hardly any LPG station around. So that is the only infrastructure needed.

And yes yanks are lazy. But maybe the savings could entice people? Or are they more lazy then they are cheap?

Both I think. If the tech is more expensive AND more complicated, there is no incentive to move to it, unless an outside force influences that decision, ie government mandate.

Well you aren't going to get the tech for free.. But I'd hardly call it expensive.. Could quite easily pay for itself in a year.

Complicated? Doesn't everyone own a bbq in this country? How hard was it to hook up the gas bottle?

My father converted his car to LPG back in the early 70's. Took him a weekend (or less) to do it at home I think.

Yeah. the autos over hee that could greatly benefit from it are the giant pickup trucks. How easy would it be to install it in one of those? Pretty damn easy..

People have converted their vehicles to run on LPG in this country, they're all over the various truck forums.

But those are enthusiasts, the "average" person has not the inclination for such ventures.

Same with most Australians. You take it to a dealership or any mechanic, and they'll do it for you..

Civic GX - $25,490

Civic Lx (same equipment packages) - $18,555

Then there is the home charging station, as the car only has about 225 mile range.

Just under $5000.

Then there is the retooling at other gas stations for adding CNG fueling to them.

As well as that whole fracking disaster if natty gas usage grows more quickly than it already is. Ask fly to fill in the details for you on that one if you like.

That being said, a self-drilled tap to a NG reserve + one of the Phill - $1000 in credit for that + that civic - $7500 in credit for that + NG heating/cooling + NG fridge and other appliances = chikken heaven.
