And China has been doing the same thing for years now, building amazing infrastructure and living arrangements in record time.

These are feats of amazing engineering and humanity and should be studied as to how a community of people can be so closely knit and fast working and productive.
 
Houses still don't have windows in New Orleans from Katrina how many years ago?
 
china is also a huge human rights and pollution violator(even worse than the US) so it's easy for them to go full steam ahead when they don't have to give a shit about killing people or polluting like crazy

You can't compare houses having windows to fixing a road. I agree it's badass they fixed the road that fast but those are two separate issues. Most of New Orleans is not rebuilt because people are fucking lazy. I have alot of family between Slidell and NOLA and my uncle had his house completely rebuilt and the rest of his street was still living in FEMA trailers demanding that the government not only pay to fix their house but to also do the work.

Granted a bridge is more complicated but it took over a year almost bankrupting the budget to throw everything they could at getting it done in MN to repair their 500m collapse. They didn't have ALL of their bridges go out at the same time, nor other infrastructure issues simultaneously going on either.

The i35 bridge collapse is the one event that had the quickest response time from a disaster I can remember and it still took over a year to correct, even with a blank check to pay for it.

Now even in non-disaster times we can't "slowly" fix shit that's broken.

Cleveland had no budget last year at all to do any road work more than patching. None. But they did pass zeroing corporate tax rates as incentive for companies to come to the city or to stop them from leaving. They still left, hitting each pot hole on the way out.

And in these global economically stressed times Japan can repair even 150m of road in 6 days when the rest of the whole country is recovering just so those recovery efforts can continue and this should be celebrated and encouraged.

And we need to figure out how they did it.

If pollution and safety regulation where the major factors in why infrastructure is not built at the same speeds, then fine, but it's not because Japan has the same if not stricter regulations and they can build their shit faster than you guys.

DC metro took 6 months to repair an escalator.

DC gov took 10 months to redo a 100m section of Massachusetts Ave (Scott Circle). Just road and guttering.
 
it's not rocket science, they're just using an obvious plan. if they have to get relief supplies around the country the first thing to fix are the main arteries and rail

if something is dire enough here it will get fixed quickly. now on the scale of something like katrina you can't fix everything overnight but neither can the japanese. it will take them many years to recover from this

You guys still haven't fully recovered from Katrina. Japan will probably do it in a year or two.
