Lets discuss ontopic and the use of the ban

I still think that if we believe in self-moderation perhaps the thread maker should just state in their post that they want the thread not-derailed and we should respect that or just not post in the thread. It would save you all work.

I think the problem with this was illustrated earlier when someone (could even have been you) admitted that sometimes they forget the thread tag and post off-topic stuff in an on-topic thread even when they don't intend to. I do this too. And then I think there are some that just won't respect it because they are too busy having a good time.

They are stating that by chosing the icon. The problem is that people just forget. It isn't intentional or malicious...

the only thing i think that needs to change is the blatant disregard for the on topic thread requirements. posts that do so should be deleted with all the rest. If you see a tangent you like, make a spinoff thread.

Pittsburgh.

I will say the ban is not what is used to be. I hated the time during the "UF Inquisition" when everyone was getting banned for everything.

Very, very, few people have been banned.

Several people got brief vacations (mikey of course, 'nev, Sleeman, and a couple of others) sometimes just for the heck of it.

Fase was banned, no surprise there.

We DID, however, used to edit nsfw pictures, swearing in thread titles, and lock threads when genmay-style idiocy started.

And that was mostly in the very beginning, before your time I think.

There is a very select group, now gone private, that is pushing for more content control. They are of the big brother mindset that we are not able to police ourselves.

Have you considered keep threads on topic in a medium that promotes ADHD style associations with topics discussed is like herding cats? If the thread gets derailed, it's usually because the OP topic is played out, wasn't that interesting to begin with, or led to a more important or topical conversation through association. Now why would anyone want to stifle that free flow of creativity?

It's not hard to see why. We have people who feel we must be policed, and other people who, logically, see this as a Mesasge Board, and not an extremely volumous one, and take if for that, instead of getting all serious over content control. Some of you might just need to take a step away from the internet for a while, because you are putting far to much thought into how to bring patriot act style oversite into your online lives.

There are times, after you post, that I really put some serious consideration into asking my dad if he cheated on my mom way back when with some woman in new york state.

It's uncanny.

In their support, that group of people have been here quite a lot longer than you. This forum was created to avoid quite a bit of what you speak. Some people's "creativity" is not worth being seen.

For the record, I'm not a member of "that group".
