Lets discuss ontopic and the use of the ban

I think the main problem is the mods don't like deleting all the posts. I'm guilty of posting non-on topic posts sometimes, and I do feel bad. My mind just completely gleans over the thread titles sometimes though and someone goads me into posting a reply.

:( Us Marylanders really need to get together some day and have really fun times and do cool stuff so that everyone else can be jealous of us too. You guys have too much fun down there, and it's warm. I wish I were a Tampon.

You guys can use one of these for the Maryland icon

this...I'm lazy and if someone gets their panties in such a huge knot as to get offended by the conversation in a thread evolving they probably wouldn't like it here on the whole anyway

They are selling crack pipes like the one Krusty has at a gas station by one of our dorms.

I have 2 convenience stores within a block of my place and oddly enough neither of them sells any sort of paraphernalia

While this may be hella coding, why not set it up so that if the thread starter picks ontopic, they are granted mod rights over the thread. They can delete posts they feel are offtopic or they can let the topic keep rolling if they like where its going. If you don't like what that OP thinks, make your own thread.

Then the forum mods only have to do shit if there's like NSFW crap that isn't tagged and stuff. That would move their work load down to next to zero.

I've yet to find a good and EASY way to add additional notification for ontopic threads. I have to update the forum tonite so maybe something will come to me. I may enable 'report this post' for ontopic threads and only review posts that get reported, with obvious bans for wasting my time using the feature.

I think that would end up creating more angst and frustration than already exists in those threads.
