That is kind of the point though. There is nothing racially charged by the term Wet Back. It refers to a group of people who had to cross the Rio Grande to get into America. That group of people, although mainly Mexican, can consist of any race.

well, not really. you wouldn't be called a wetback for crossing illegally

and to set the record clear "hispanic" or "latino" is not a race. there are black hispanics, white hispanics and asian hispanics but hispanic is more of a subset of races

then again some anthropologists don't even accept that there are three biological races in the first place and there's strong evidence to support their opinion :o but the bottom line remains that while the term isn't "racist" since the class of people it refers to are not technically a "race" it's still a term borne of bigotry and hatred.

I think everyone missed my point and sadly even the people who know me think for some odd reason I am being racist. All I am saying is why should "latino's" get offended for a word that does not mean anything to there race. It only means something to "the general people" who fit this definition, same as redneck. If someone were to call me a redneck I would laugh, they should grow up and do the same.

Because 'wet back' means hispanic. I don't give a shit who actually swam across a river, and neither do they. It has become a derogatory term for their race (or subsets thereof, per gay FlyNavy. ), whether you think it makes logical (semantic) sense or not.

Because the point is that a lot of hate-filled rednecks in the US use the term for ALL Mexicans and sometimes for all latinos in general. The implication is that because someone is Mexican living in the United States that the person came here via illegal means. It's not about the feelings of criminals, it's about the feelings of an entire group of people that have done nothing wrong.

No, I am talking about the APPLICATIONS to become a US citizen. There is a process to become one, not just swim a fucking river. My mother, father, brother and I made some serious sacrifices to live in this country. My father worked his ass off cleaning shit off peoples floors because that was the only job he was allowed to have. My mother spent her whole life becoming a nurse and took a pay cut to move here because of how desperately the area needed nurses. They are both very happy with there current life but it came at a price, the price of hard work.
