I am writing a paper on American Trends and chose to narrow it down to the religious area. Doing some research I found some interesting data I wanted to share with you guys.

This link contains the percentages of different types of religions in each state. It’s interesting that WY, ID, WA have more non-religious people than any other religion.

Other interesting tidbits from this website:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_tren.htm

  • Sunday church is the most racially segregated time of the week
  • Christianity is on the decline for membership
  • While Christianity is the largest religion in the world, Islam is second and may surpass Christianity later in the 21st century if the rate of decline continues the way it currently.
  • Wiccan is one of the fastest growing groups in America right now

Maybe this is bad information, but they cite everything on that website. Also I may be alone on this, but religion is exciting to read about. I’m not at all religious, but learning about it is fascinating. Who’s with me?

I’ll post more tidbits as I read the site.

The story of Noah and the Great Flood is based on the Babylonian myth of Uta-Napisthim, but I'm sure it really happened.

As my dad would say, "You aren't supposed to take the book literally, these are stories to live your life by and enrich your heart..."

Which honestly is the way it should have always been looked at, there would have been a lot less lives lost.

not necessarily. even when looked at as a collection of stories and a general guidelines for life as oppossed to a literal interpretation both the torah/bible and the koran easily justify murder in the defense of the respective religions

53% of Americans consider religions to be very important in their lives. This compares with 16% in Britain, 14% in France and 13% in Germany.

True, I just feel very "movie-ish" cause I compare it to what was said in Dogma, its something like..

People took a great Idea and ruined it by making it into a belief structure.
