what the hell.

i'm sure i have. i try very hard to be respectful at all times, but i am not perfect. nor is anyone.
i don't think i'm being touchy feely. i just hate to see so many unnecessary remarks ruining good things.

You are being touchy feely though. You know well you havent called anyone names. One doesnt try to be repectful, one is or isnt. You cant call someone names without knowing you are doing it.

This whole 'everyone is behaving badly let's hold hands and sing kum-bay-a' doesnt really further anything. Let's see some specific examples of what you dont approve of.

I remember that day that Thorn made a thread about how much of a bad mood she was in and how she attacked each of us. :fly:

this is probably true. the problem HERE is that there are no clear-cut ways to do so. maybe there needs to be a come-to-jesus meeting with mods about moderation and when measures should be taken to step in. maybe there should also be an order of steps that occur which end up in a final action (example: 1 would be warning because of personal insult. 2 would be another warning with example and a notification to admin. 3 would end up in a penalty...kicked out of thread, put in a pg playground, expelled for a day, etc.) i also think that mods and admins need to be professional and not personal when "discipling," for lack of better term. "this is the third attempt to control inappropriate personal attacks. the following will happen as a result."
i just think it's hard for everyone to be on solid ground, and that's where confusion and hurt feelings occur.

funny, i recall about a year ago having a discussion about putting an end to those things you mentioned above,

it's my opinion, and the one i have stated, that the debates should not be condescending. if that's too kumbayaish for anyone, well, that's his or her own problem. i do not think that requesting a bit of respect should be beyond any lines.

Believe it or not... I respect your opinions.

You turn a nice phrase.

Ultimately, the shots need to be more subtle, "trippingly off the tongue," as it were.

Then mods, and others, can see people are having fun and less likely to shut down the thread.

I agree. If the people in charge have a problem with it, I guess that's what matters. I just love the back-and-forth a bit too much I guess. The biting, scathing remarks. I don't see what the big deal is. *shrug*

you honestly don't see any problems with the way things went down in the wal-mart thread?

Whoever doesnt argue well for their stake or makes simple errors of logic is bound to look a fool and the other side will look condescending. It cant be helped. I mean... Have you ever watched congressional debates? Someone in an argument is always going to 'appear' to be 'picked on'.

Your ideas are very grade-school-esque, in my opinion. :p People dont get a long, some people are idiots, and that all comes out, and it isnt pretty. I find it fun though. ^.^

I have been in forums that actually had a flame thread.

Something would start... then others would suggest they go to the flame thread to settle it.

One would say, "bite me." The other would say,"No, you bite me."

After all the insults were used up, back to society they would come.

It's kind of a lost art, really.

that's great and all and a lot of us feel that way, but i fear the only way things are going to get better than they are now is if there's some actual legit moderation before things get out of hand.

You have made your feelings towards more moderation on UF known to everyone numerous times. Very few here (if any) agree with you.

No one is forcing you to read or post. Get over it.

Nor do I.

You bring up a controversial subject and people are going to argue about it. With arguing comes bickering, with bickering comes insults, it goes on.

Not that you'd know. You aren't tall enough to see up onto the adult table.

Guys are different than girls, Thorny. It probably causes cancer, but sometimes we just like to be confrontational and agitated. And then after all the "Fuck off"s we just kind of sit around until eventually someone says "That was pretty good, by the way." Someone else says "Yeah, yours wasn't bad either."

And then it's mellow until the next time. :iono:

Nothing really bugs me, but I've been accused of being weird plenty of times. I grew up with a brother and we verbally massacred each other all the time. Underneath the conversational psychopathy there's chumminess though. Even a healthy respect. Nothing's better than a person who can absorb what you hand them, turn it over, and smack you in the head with it. I like FG a lot for that reason. He can have an intelligent conversation but kick you in the balls if necessary. Elpmis too. And it looks like Dysfunctional is another one.

But again, it could be that there's just something wrong with me altogether. Maybe that really is an unacceptable outlook.
