End tank blew off?

Did a good flush and fill/basic service and it started overheating the next day. Bunch of crap came loose from somewhere I think is some kind of "head gasket in a bottle" type stuff, or at least heavy duty stop leak. Had to've been years old as I don't use that sorta thing. Was full of fibers, seems kinda like cotton but don't know exactly what. Enough to completely clog the little hose that goes from radiator to overflow tank so you know the radiator core is clogged too.

Took it all apart and took it down to the carwash, pressure sprayed it out til I got good clean flow both directions through all the little slots.

I'll consider it truly fixed when/if I get a few drive cycles/couple hundred miles on it without any trouble but for now it holds pressure, doesn't leak, and doesn't overheat.

Probably replace it eventually anyway just for peace of mind but figured why not give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'm only out $10.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if I find a head gasket leak now as they must've put that shit in there for a reason.

Started to pull the GTO's rear apart yesterday but got stymied on 2 fronts. 1) a stripped lug that I need to head back to the folks' house with the plasma cutter for, and 2) no 3/8" allen wrench to remove the brake caliper.

For some reason, the axle has about 1/4" of axial play. It should have 0". Since it's a dropout axle (no c-clips), it's probably just a bearing that shit the bed. Hoping for the one on the axle that goes into the differential, since that's a lot easier to deal with.

Update: the GTO axle problem is a result of the disc conversion in the rear. Gonna design a new bracket that bolts on behind the axle flange instead of between the axle flange and the bearing retainer, then get my friend to cut it for me on his water jet table.

Oh, that reminds me.

Very cool. I'm surprised this isn't being done more. They have the Wazer(about $8k) which is a tabletop unit stemming from a Crowdfund. I think a unit for the home builder could be done for about $2k - about a 50/50 split between the CNC 2D movement and the pump, tips, etc. I'd love one - I buy a few water-jet items, would probably use one a lot if I owned one.

Oh, that reminds me.

Neato. I have a pressure washer idling about in the garage. Troy-Built with Honda motor. Don't even think its been used before. Also have a 30 gallon air compressor. That could probably help cut our rental house in half! Could the air compressor be used as a supercharger on a pressure washer? Hahaha

water does not compress appreciably so no.

So, the Audi hit 100K, so it's time to take advantage of the prepaid service plan that came with it and get some shit done for free.

Call in, book an appointment, "uh there's no Audicare plan on your car"... "uh yes there is, I'll call you back"
Dig out the paperwork, sure enough found the CPO Audicare paperwork on the car showing that they gave it to me as part of buying the thing.
Called back in, "yeah I've got a signed sheet of paper saying I have the fuckin' plan, figure it out"
"Uh, we're service, the computer says you don't have Audicare, we can't do jack shit. Try calling back in and speaking to finance"

Finally got a call back from the dealer.

They dug out my sales paperwork and found the matching sheet of paper that says, yes, I have a CPO Audicare plan.

Turns out someone in service keyed into a computer that there was 320K on the car, versus 32K, when I bought the thing. This immediately expired the Audicare plan and removed it from the computer. It also expired an existing Audicare plan I didn't know about, that was on the thing. So I've been buying my own oil and filters and changing this when I could just be dropping this shit off at the dealer and having it done for free.

However, since nobody told me that there was an existing Audicare plan on the Q5 when I bought it, even though the previous owner paid for the plan, they're not liable. And the last part was obviously being read off a sheet of paper and stated in a very legalese kind of way, so I get the feeling that the dealership checked with their counsel and it was a prepared "fuck off" statement.

Yeah, I might buy another Audi after this, but it won't be from that dealer...

Update: I guess my "I can't believe you're pulling this shit on me, I'm disappointed, I guess you've legally got the upper hand on me or whatever but give me a fuckin' break" reaction to them telling me this didn't sit well with them, and they called me back an hour later. They're gonna "work something out" and "make things right"

Granted, I'm only out 5 oil filters, 25L of oil and 1 set of wiper blade inserts so I'm not too butthurt over the thing, but I'm gonna take the opportunity to see what free shit I can get.

I think this might work:fly:
