Ring is (or was) anonymous which gives a +9 to racism. When we had a Ring, it was an extremely toxic community.

My neighbor lady was trying to describe the new maintenance lead guy in our little community and she said “He’s a real nice guy too!” which was her way of omitting “for a black man” and feeling okay with that. I’d already met him and was enjoying her squirming. Hehe

For Pete’s sake, just say it. It’s not like he’d go unnoticed, he’s not a Blazer. There’s like six black guys here that aren’t on the Blazers.

Get him a flux core welder, and turn him loose. There'll be things you need to get to make things easier for him, but I'd start with a .035" flux core welder like the WeldPak HD (buy it used), a set of tin snips, and a hacksaw, and see what happens.

Maybe check out his designs and make sure they won't collapse in on themselves before he rides around in it

Alternately, there are usually courses on welding at the local community colleges that are worthwhile, and you won't have to buy any tools first.

This is good advice except for the "see what happens". There's a lot that could go very wrong welding so make sure safety is understood and impressed.

Welding is a nice skill to learn, with almost instant results and feedback from your work. Definitely a good "look what you're capable of" learning experience.
