Couple of buddies came over to shoot some guns in the back 8 acres. Shot a SCAR heavy, braked on the end. Fuck that was loud, even with full hearing protection on. One of my buddies also has a couple of silencers so we got to try that out. Still stupid loud on the SCAR. Made the gun heavy and a lot hotter after shooting one magazine. What do you know, movies lie yet again. Able to plink the steel target at 100ft or more. Pistols the silencer made a little bit of difference in sound, but still pretty loud.

Shot a bunch of pistols and a couple shotguns. Both guys are super cool, really responsible, and safety aware around a newb like me.

Sunburned and covered in ticks. Fun times.

That's cool. Never even seen a SCAR around here let alone get to shoot one.

And ya, reducing 30-40 decibels is still above the pain threshold for many. Ammo and everything has to be designed for that use to achieve anything that could be described as quiet (for a gun).

The only weapon we shot that was like Hollywood movie silent was a 22LR with a can on it. Literally only hear the trigger pull. That was stupid silent and really accurate.
