They never could be bothered to respond to the save the date, and anytime turkuh day is brought up, the woman changes the subject.

For example. Us- "Yeah, we're going to start keeping our eye out for a good thanksgiving turkey" Woman clears her throat, subject get's changed.

They're either not showing up. Or, they won't tell us, so the woman can act like it was such a hard thing to do to get here (it's not) and she's so fucking awesome for it. And make it all about herself, as usual.

Meh.

edit: I'll add this. the womans brothers house had a big fire, so she may get all "we need to make time to see my brother" which she only wants to do when the FIL wants to come down here.

Stop inviting caustic people into your life. Family does not get a free pass. I'm constantly reminded that life is too fucking short to not try and enjoy every moment of it.

We're wondering if we'll get an invite to Christmas up there in her childhood home. Which under no circumstances, would accept.

We were told a couple years ago by the FIL that we "don't celebrate Christmas properly", and after what they pulled last year, I have no intention of inviting them.

But we shall see. It's a bummer for Anne not to have a traditional Christmas.

If you're refusing to go to their house, don't invite them to yours and get butthurt when they don't come. This madness is the act of a teenage girl.

We're having a going away party at the end of this month. My dad's said that because we were doing it at a brewery, his side may not be there. I looked at him and said, "They're family. If the venue is the deciding factor of whether they show up or not instead of the purpose of the event, then that's on them. I love them, but that's the easiest and most cost effective way for us all to get together. If they can't put their issues aside and join us, then they must not care about us leaving. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I'm also not going to change ALL of our plans to accomodate a few people who may or may not show up."
