Ontopic IRMAGEDDON

To be fair to the idiot Floridians, riding out a hurricane is very scary. Not to mention the week+ long build up of anxiety, all the prep work, no power for days, and then the cleanup afterwards. A lot of people are still really anxious, and of course the tv stations are lining up the hurricanes and trying to freak everyone out.

But our thoughts are with the island dwellers. :(
I get that about cleaning up. I've been through a couple (at my house and actually on vacation) myself as well as other crazy ass types of storms. It's hard to clean up and hard to live without power. I also completely agree about the TV guys not helping the situation at all. It's odd how different the fam in PR are about all of this though. I don't think their news hypes up storms the way ours do which makes people act crazy. Even reading about Irma from the PR source in spanish was a world apart from what CNN and weather channel etc were saying. Very crazy how different it is.

I'm just so helpless feeling up here. I guess you can evacuate a whole island but could you imagine doing it? I don't think they even considered leaving anyway.

Don't cry for attention or you may just get the worst kind of attention.
HURRICANE TORNADOES RIPPING UP OUR HOME AND KITTERS

Well now I'm going to reconsider inviting you over to my 15' higher and 4 miles away from the bay further home next storm since you fuckers are so intent on jinxing yourselves.

Higher up, more chance for tornadoes and higher wind, no?

Yeah, that 15' is a huge difference when it comes to wind.

I'll soon have storm shutters that can take a 2x4 at 180mph, so weigh that in too.

edit: According to the Altitude Altimeter app, we're actually 26' above sea level. (It uses actual GPS data instead of location data.)

Apparently the PR government also has a bit of flair for the dramatic. They also basically said, "Get out or die." Not sure what the building codes are there, so it might actually be a bit more true than here.

Out of flood zones - get to higher grounds. Or those who live in wooden homes (lots of concrete homes there). That's what that was in reference to. I wouldn't call that dramatic, I'd call that smart. No one can evacuate so what else can they do? Just tell the people to get out of unsafe areas and structures. That's about it.

Seriously I have no idea how we're going to hear from family there at this point to know if they are okay or not. They don't have what we have here and it will take months (saying 4-6) to bring power to locations.

I'm sure there will be a recovery assistance effort from the US mainland to help them get back on their feet.
