Well you're using the wrong word.Luck is not quantifiable, its a subjective matter. Fly getting his skills when he did, at the right time to escape the 9-5 life sounds fairly fortunate to me. it might not to you, and that's ok

....also i dont believe in this luck or fortune bullshit, everything takes hard work save for being born rich and sometimes even thenLuck is not quantifiable, its a subjective matter. Not really. If you want to advance you might, but to keep a position you don't need an edge, you need to know your job and do it.You need to have an edge to be at a certain position and maintain it
I didn't use the word originallyWell you're using the wrong word.
You're getting off track. You know damn well I never implied you were presented with a golden goose or a silver spoon. I would never suggest that you haven't fully earned your success.
And you are smarter than the average bear, you are clearly above average because you did climb out of childhood poverty without a degree and financial assistance. The vast majority of people who grew up like you did and worked just as hard as you did are not as successful making you exceptional in comparison. Maybe you've been lucky too but I'm more apt to attribute it to you being smarter.
Not to mention that a thing like work ethic is taught. Very few people can grow up in poverty and develop a desire to work hard purely on their own. If you did then that's even more exceptional but for most people if they don't have someone to teach them to work hard then they won't develop that drive on their own. It's not a natural human instinct to work one's ass off for success down the line.
The point is that working your ass off may be available to just about anyone but hard work by itself does not guarantees success.
Real shit, we should smoke a fat J one day babaYou're getting off track.
I work my ass off. I got here through blood, sweat, and literal tears. I'm still guaranteed nothing, and don't expect anything. Neither should anyone else. Full stop.
There's a ton of shit that people can do outside of IT that requires no formal training. Hell, a McDonalds manager makes more than I do...Not to mention that many of us here lucked out in having a spark of interest in IT right as the industry was exploding and providing us with a stable platform which to achieve success. I think that's why so many nerds are libertarians, the thought is "I got interested in computers and made a living from it so everyone else can too" forgetting that most of the population has a hard time just being users of the stuff we learn how to fix.
Sorry man, this (white/male) privilege shit really gets under my skin because I know I got here by pulling up my own fucking bootstraps.but shit, @fly, I seriously don't want you to think I implied you were handed anything or didn't earn it. that's not what I meant at all, dude. you've worked hard and earned every bit of success you have, you fully deserve all that you have

White and male privilege are a thing, especially in tech.Sorry man, this (white/male) privilege shit really gets under my skin because I know I got here by pulling up my own fucking bootstraps.

There are always outliers that we can pick out, but I'd imagine that by and large - if you put in 60-80 weeks in any field, you'll advance. That's the very foundation of this country that nothing is given, you've got to take it. To undermine that by saying, "I see that you're lazy, but it's okay," is about as un-American as you can get.Other people work their asses off too.
We live in a modern society, people should absolutely expect to earn a living wage if they work for a company. Companies should absolutely guarantee a living wage to any employee working for them. That is how we maintain the society in which other people are able to take risks.
On top of that imagine how many more creative small businesses there would be if people weren't worried that failing in their small business would mean their family is homeless. That's why the government invests in such things, because it's better for the economy as a whole.
you're still stuck in a brothel, chained up in a room almost 80km from the current party. Freon never completed his proof of worth task to rescue you, and instead stole from a merchant, left you in the room, and ran away.I'm going to drown your DND character druid in fairy dust. hmpf.
