Halp We have a boofing quandry...

You managed to buy a rural property without ensuring your neighbour couldn't rip up all the woodland surrounding it and build a strip mall next door and you're giving out property advice???????

no :/ i knew they were going to rip it up. It was just a matter of time.

I was hoping later rather than sooner.

not necessary in any way, but if it clears your conscience, and keeps them from sueing you (which they wouldnt win) when you go with someone reputable, why not.

the sucky part about 'they wouldn't win' is that it usually costs an atty to defend you so they don't win.

courtrooms are all degrees of LOSING. (except for the fucking peeps that work there.)

again, find out what they actually did. for all you know they padded a pocket and you're going to get fucked

you know damn well BBB ratings are purchased

Again, all I did is file a claim. No one is getting 'fucked' here. And you can't get an A rating unless you've been in business for at least 5 years. Otherwise, A- is the best you can do.

Id just tell them to get fucked because:

If it took them a month to get around to talking to you for real, then they must not want your business. If youre concerned about what they "did" to get you your check, call your insurance people and ask them. Im betting it wasnt a whole lot.

If you still insist on keeping the first guy, at least try and get him to match the better quote you received.

Dearest Flypaper LOL

1st guy did the insurance shit, then disappeared for a while... that gives you 100% justification to go looking for other people.

Spend a bit of extra money right now and never worry about your roof again. Don't get 3 tab shingles, they're shit. Ask for GAF "Timberline HD" shingles, installed with 6 nails/shingle with a leak barrier underneath. These shingles are heavy and durable as fuck, provided they're installed correctly they'll have no trouble with wind/hail.

If we go with the Angies List guys, that's exactly what we'll be getting.

you're right, you filed a claim. but you keep saying the other guy did something that possibly deserves some cheddar. what did he do? that's a very important question, you should probably find out because non-shady people don't knock on your door offering roofing services

being in business for five years and then purchasing an A rating is still possible. the BBB is not a trustworthy organization, it's a private company whose customers are the businesses, not people looking for ratings. remember that

No one knocked on my door man...

And go reread the thread again. I was stating that they have an A as validation that the company has been in business for awhile, not that the rating means anything more than that.

good point, I misread your initial post regarding how you heard about them. still, it sounds like that's how they got your neighbors, which is part of the scam. by the time they've done a few houses it's just word of mouth

are these guys bonded and insured? are there any reviews available that aren't from your neighborhood? what did he do to get your claim processed? what did he say to the insurance company? if you're the one that filed it then why would they deserve anything at all?

i think this thread needs to be a poll thread

Is this a good idea in any way:

1) Yes
2) No

I think we all know where every vote would fall
