WTF Fly and Ape are rethinking that whole atheism thing

What kind of question is that ?

Well if she was raised and indoctrinated into a different religion, say Islamic, she would be Islamic and not Catholic. That's how it works the majority of the time. So why do people stay with the religion they were raised with the majority of the time?

/ramble just got done drinking with @fly's grandma.

Wrong again bitch ;)

I chose my religion as an adult after testing out others once I realized I did believe in the Christian God. If I had been born Jewish I would have stayed there though.

I think 'indoctrinated' is the wrong word. If the entire culture you're around develops a line of thinking and you agree with it, it doesn't mean you're indoctrinated.

Were you indoctrinated into living in a 3 br/2ba house instead of a hut? Why not a castle? What do you have against castles and huts?

3 meals a day - indoctrinated? no. it just works out that way. But someone else can say 'you were indoctrinated!! I eat 5 meals a day because I have critical thinking.'

fuck that. we all have critical thinking. some end up at 3 meals a day, some at 5, some at others.

Just a little info: I do not believe in taking the Bible literally the way some religions do (simply because there are some contradictions within those religions on what is literal and what is not) - so strike one against a lot of Christian religions. I do believe that faith alone will not save you, that you need good works. Strike 2 against most Christian religions. I do prefer that certain sacraments come in a certain order so no thanks to Byzantine. I also am not Greek and don't belong to that circle so that one is out.

I am not Jewish, nor can I trace my family back to that region so again running out of ideas.... brought me to, pure coincidence, the one religion I was raised with.

I'm sure by now many of you notice I know a lot about a bunch of religions. There is a reason for that ;)

Seriously quit pretending like you know me for once.

I was generalizing but go ahead and take it personal yet again.

Nice name calling under the guise of a smiley, real cute.

"She" is not a generalization.

Now you are taking it personally. I was joking silly girl. Really that's why I edited it because I figured you might read it wrong.

So knock it off (edit - now I'm not joking)

I'm not sure you understand indoctrinated.

Religion is indoctrinated, there isn't a choice when you are a young child and not many people change their minds when they get older.

Well this thread got FUN again!!!

:GiraffeeatingpopcornGIF:

didn't work as well this time :fly:

For the record I'm not upset or even annoyed at this point - just stating in case people claim I am or know how I am feeling.

It's snowing and I'm kind of relaxed for the first time this week *sigh*

My religion there is a choice once you reach an older age. In fact that is what confirmation is for - to make the adult choice.

Wait for it.
