It was only a matter of time before Syria's Assad, emboldened by Obama's recent backtracking and confident he has all the leverage and momentum, started laying down his own conditions. And here they are, as per RIA and Interfax citing an interview with Assad to air in its entirety later today on Rossia 24 TV:

That's retarded. However, the US is a nothing more than a stupid bully at "negotiating". Initially, all they wanted was for us to take a military strike off the table. How fucking hard is that? And it allows them to save face a little as well? But no... Fucking idiots.

It depends on what you view the point of Vietnam as, it was never really to help the Vietnamese, it was to show the Soviet union that we werent going to back down when they funded revolutions. To which point it was successful. Then we dropped the ball on Rhodesia and Afghanistan.
Revolutionary history is an interesting thing. The British were faced with popular lack of support at home, and the costs of shipping its instruments (and soldiers) of war across an entire ocean. It became very expensive to continue fighting, and the losses inflicted by American troops in key battles were a death knell to any real hopes of British victory. Which is why their vengeance in the War of 1812 was so satisfying to many career British soldiers.
