long story, deal with it.
As you may know, my wife is 23 weeks pregnant, about 5 months or so. So Wednesday she wasn't feeling well at work, having some cramps and nausea, which isn't uncommon for a prego, she came home early. The cramps got worse, we called the hospital, and decided to wait it out a bit. at about midnight, she was having major cramps and violent vomiting, which is a bit odd this late in a pregnancy, we went in to our hospital. they said she had a stomach virus and was dehydrated so they hooked her up on an IV and said she should be fine in the morning. So I went home on her insistance (but couldn't sleep because i was worried) and returned early in the morning, after calling in sick for both of us.
The cramping had not subsided Thursday morning, so it was not dehydration, or stomach virus, so a series of ultrasounds was ordered. The ob's (2 or 3 of them) thought it was a kidney problem. When a woman is pregnant all, her organs get a bit smushed up, so it was hard to tell what was going on, but the consesus from the several radiologists was that it was possibly her appendix or pancreas. So the surgeon examined her, and dertermined that it was her appendix, but couldn't confirm because she can't have a CAT scan , and her white cell count is already high beacause of pregnancy, but he was quite sure of it.
She was transfered via ambulance late night Thursday, a lovely rough ride to boot, to another hospital that has a high-risk pregnancy unit for possible surgery, and consultation form a specialist. The resident surgeon seconded the appendicitis, and the specailist confirmed it. She was scheduled to have it removed at 6 this morning, so I stayed the night by her side. We were told there was about a 5% chance of losing the baby. Not too bad, and worth the risk to prevent further damage and risk to my wife. Surgery went off okay, no problem, definitely inflammed appendix was removed by open surgery (3 inch incision vs small instrument surgery which would have caused higher risk to the baby). I saw her in recovery room arounfd 9 am today, and said she's be there till around 3, so I should best go home.
After catching about 2 hour of much needed sleep, I got a call saying she was having contractions nd I needed to get there immeditely. I drive my ass off at 150 kph, and got ther, she was having them quite frequently, which is scary but relatively short, which is better. They gave her some drugs to slow the contractions and some paikillers. The contractions hortened in length, then soon in frequency, the last being at about 3pm today. After being stable for a few hours, she was moved to the high-risk obstetrice dept. and has been fairly stable since. I came home tonight to get some sleep and let her relax, I'll be heading back in the morning.
Apologoes if parts don't make sense, I'm working on about 4 hours of sleep in about 65 hours or so. If you had a worse few days, you can have all my marklar.
