long story, deal with it.

As you may know, my wife is 23 weeks pregnant, about 5 months or so. So Wednesday she wasn't feeling well at work, having some cramps and nausea, which isn't uncommon for a prego, she came home early. The cramps got worse, we called the hospital, and decided to wait it out a bit. at about midnight, she was having major cramps and violent vomiting, which is a bit odd this late in a pregnancy, we went in to our hospital. they said she had a stomach virus and was dehydrated so they hooked her up on an IV and said she should be fine in the morning. So I went home on her insistance (but couldn't sleep because i was worried) and returned early in the morning, after calling in sick for both of us.

The cramping had not subsided Thursday morning, so it was not dehydration, or stomach virus, so a series of ultrasounds was ordered. The ob's (2 or 3 of them) thought it was a kidney problem. When a woman is pregnant all, her organs get a bit smushed up, so it was hard to tell what was going on, but the consesus from the several radiologists was that it was possibly her appendix or pancreas. So the surgeon examined her, and dertermined that it was her appendix, but couldn't confirm because she can't have a CAT scan , and her white cell count is already high beacause of pregnancy, but he was quite sure of it.

She was transfered via ambulance late night Thursday, a lovely rough ride to boot, to another hospital that has a high-risk pregnancy unit for possible surgery, and consultation form a specialist. The resident surgeon seconded the appendicitis, and the specailist confirmed it. She was scheduled to have it removed at 6 this morning, so I stayed the night by her side. We were told there was about a 5% chance of losing the baby. Not too bad, and worth the risk to prevent further damage and risk to my wife. Surgery went off okay, no problem, definitely inflammed appendix was removed by open surgery (3 inch incision vs small instrument surgery which would have caused higher risk to the baby). I saw her in recovery room arounfd 9 am today, and said she's be there till around 3, so I should best go home.

After catching about 2 hour of much needed sleep, I got a call saying she was having contractions nd I needed to get there immeditely. I drive my ass off at 150 kph, and got ther, she was having them quite frequently, which is scary but relatively short, which is better. They gave her some drugs to slow the contractions and some paikillers. The contractions hortened in length, then soon in frequency, the last being at about 3pm today. After being stable for a few hours, she was moved to the high-risk obstetrice dept. and has been fairly stable since. I came home tonight to get some sleep and let her relax, I'll be heading back in the morning.

Apologoes if parts don't make sense, I'm working on about 4 hours of sleep in about 65 hours or so. If you had a worse few days, you can have all my marklar.

I went through something similar, albeit at 7 months, not 5. 5 makes me very nervous. You have my thoughts and prayers. Nothing is worse than feeling helpless while watching the woman you love suffering with something you can't explain, and then being told by a doctor that the baby you haven't really even had a chance to love yet is in danger. It's horrible beyond words. I don't like feeling helpless, and I wanted to pull on some gloves and grab a scalpel myself.

In the end my son was a month and a half premature, but thankfully had no shortcomings or health issues to speak of. I will pray from the deepest depths of my soul that the three of you retreat to Casa Tre to celebrate a long and happy life together.

tre, i don't even know what to say. i won't pretend to have any idea how you are feeling.
i am so glad you posted to let us know. your family is in my thoughts and heart.
get some sleep and some strength. please keep us posted.

My sister in law is 5.5 months preggo and she has been dealing with contractions and all that jazz this past week. I can't imagine what you must be going through, it's been scarring the shit outta me and she's only my sister in law. Can't imagine how you must feel.

Please keep us updated. Your thoughts and prayers are with FatBurger and I

I hope and pray that your child will turn out ok. Get some sleep though. One of the biggest causes of car crashes is driver fatigue. It would do you, your wife or your unborn child any good if you get into an accident.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. I will definitely keep both of you in my prayers and please keep us updated!

good luck man...I know what you're going through...I went through something similar a year ago but we lost the baby...then she dumped me a while after...went from being an impending dad with a great woman I loved to having neither in the span of about 4 months
I truly hope things work out for you two <3

tre, i'd post a picture of some fat fluffy animal but i think you have more substance than most of the people i'd do that for. i really hope things get better real soon for you and your lovely wife. *hug*

Hang in there Tre. I'm glad everything ended up being alright for the wife and unborn. Hopefully you can get a little bit of rest here in the next few nights and things calm back down to normal.

Take it easy friend.

Just got home again. She's doing better today, no contractions or anything out of the ordinary. The surgeon came by, checked her out, and said the appendectomy went really well, and everything was fine on his end, and that the obstetrics dept. was in charge of everything else now. She's still getting painkillers for the cut, and indomethacin to help prevent labour. She should be released Monday evening, and be at home for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the love. I think this is the first thread I've ever seen a serious post from fly. :p

that is WONDERFUL, relieving news. i've been thinking about you and her all day. i'm glad to have an update!
you tell her to take it easy from here on out!! :) what a scare. i'm glad things are going so much better.
