and it's possible those saying Happy Holidays aren't sure if "for a few days" also means he won't be back for New Years, meaning more than one holiday, meaning it's easier to say "holidays" than to say "christmas and new years." Until, of course, they have to explain themselves to people who get their panties in a twist about stupid bullshit like what nicety others choose to exchange.
