I have a SageTV (www.sagetv.com) network here at the house with 6 client nodes. Basically think Tivo tv viewing type stuff, plus access to any media I put on the server, be it DVD's, music, pics, porn, etc. And since I'm getting close to running out of storage, it's time for an upgrade.
The 700 GB array and multiple individual 300 GB drives in the current server weren't cutting it, and starting to get a bit unruly and unorganized. Plus the exisitng RAID 5 array uses WD JD drives, which after hearing several horror stories of random array failure I want to take out of service, at least in a RAID config.
I picked up a Highpoint 1820A 8 port RAID card and 8 Maxtor Maxline III 300 GB SATA drives to install in my SageTV server. Should come out to 1.953 TB once I'm done with it. It's setup using RAID 5.
In the pic you can see 4 drives laid out, and 4 in the metal cage to the right. The cage is a Cooler Master 4-in-3 drive cage. The 4 bare drives will also wind up in another 4-in-3 cage.
I'm building the array right now and it should take most of the day. Next I'll copy down the data off the existing drives. After that I'll swap everything around.
This is all going in a Cooler Master CM Stacker which is what my SageTV server is housed in.
This should last me for the forseable future. My goal is to have every DVD and CD in the house available anywhere.
I'll post some more pics once it's all done.
