So my new base seems to be a little more complicated than volume volume tone knobs. It seems like it's master volume volume tone. Because when I turn down the pot all the way that's closest to the neck, it's mutes the bass. Any ideas?

BINGO! I panned the middle pot and said "wow this sounds like the bridge pickup is being solo'd!".
Cause it was. Cause it's a blend pot. Yo.

Hell yeah!! I could easily close my eyes and say it's the first time for at least 50 times. I'm hung better than that Adam Sandler egg-head anyway.

The coils appear to be on top of each other. They're tall pups.

"Bucking the hum" (humbucking) is the same thing as (hum cancelling). It just means winding one coil in reverse of the other to cancel the single coil hum, but there's a few different ways to do it, of which yours is one.

Some place them one above the other, like yours. Some split them (like what most think of as a P pickup). Some put them side by side, like a MusicMan bass or Gibson guitar.

No right or wrong way. They all do the same thing electrically but result in different sounds due to placement, construction, and other things. Just what sounds good.
