In my entire life- Only when I worked construction did I get labor day off. You actually get a lot of days off in construction.

Most boring time I ever worked was Security on Christmas Day/Thanksgiving Day at a mall. THE ENTIRE MALL WAS CLOSED but they still needed at least one supervisor on site for firewatch per the contract.

Yes because the NHS halted like they always do on bank holidays. Nobody can access hospital treatments at Christmas. Its just shut and you have to die.

Labor Day used to be, and elsewhere in the world still is, May Day, but the US wanted it to be removed from actual labor struggles like Haymarket so they stuck it in September and then managed to convince everyone it was about big sales and the cutoff for wearing white.

Socialism also was a huge third party vote in the US until the 1920s. Eugene Debs was the perennial third party candidate in the first part of the 20th century. Until he was jailed and the deomcrats cherry picked parts of his platform and put him in prison.
