You don't understand things very well if you think that's an option, which explains a lot. Fannie and Freddie were propped up because that's a MUCH easier pill to swallow than letting the mortgage industry collapse. Governments don't do hard things, because they aren't popular. Ronald Regan, or any other president, would have done the same thing. They don't even have a choice.
