I'm a peripatetic worker and as such my role is defined by new challenges. Today was the first day of my new role as a Business Support Officer to a team of around 10 social care workers based at a local Children's Centre (this is a buffer either before or after the social or penal institutionalization of children).

The role is the real deal is terms of the different skill sets required to manage the role. On a daily basis there is face to face contact with the public which is at times ranges from gut wrenching emotional engagement through to totally raging hate; the extremes are not the mainstay of atypical day but infrequent or not they occur.

The range of the admin skills needed are diverse and demanding as I am required to run the facilities, financial and general admin as well as run reports for crucial Ofsted visits, case reviews and various other meetings. I also have the responsibility of supervising two colleagues who help with the workload, Even with their help it is a to the brim role...110% capacity required.

As well as the admin side of things I also am going to be cramming a large amount of diverse training/educational courses to get me up to speed for the role I have filled and looking to the future and even more dynamic roles that will be presented.

I think I'm likng where I am now jobwise as my skills and talent have been put to best use and being broadened for future use. It's hard to find jobs where you actually feel useful and utilised; most of the time as far as I have seen most companies actually have cultures where any kind of excellence is seen as a threat by most and you become embroiled in a shitty game of politics.

I think I'm starting to like where I'm at right now. :)
