Yeah. The ones I've seen are all 4-5 years old. Any kind of disk indexing would make the machine completely unusable.

I've had several Highpoint controllers over the years, they all worked great.

Pair it up with some fast SAS drives and you should be all set.

I wasn't sure about the brand and I didn't know if anyone had used them or not.

Read the fine print. Apple basically tells you you're fucked if a product on the Apple store site doesn't work out for you

This comment might be an issue for you, though.

I just returned the 4TB 4big Quadra because it would drop frames in Final Cut Pro when video editing. While the performance "specs" look awesome, the real-world results are very disappointing. After filling this drive with over 2TB of ProRes HQ footage it would drop frames when editing with only two streams! Very frustrating having to render every long transition or picture in picture effect. This may be OK for iTunes, but it is NOT a professional editing device.

it doesn't say what connection type they're using. if they are running it on firewire or usb then I can understand it being a bit pokey. esata, not likely
