Need? Of course not. No one ever NEEDS a custom ROM. However, I can get 2-3 days of light/medium use out of my phone.I got the Nexus as it was what Motorola was before it became Moto, a quality phone with a near stock android.
Plus, I've had zero need to load a custom rom on it so far.
