No, its MUCH better. Its got Google search right in it. You can swap from full screen to one side, resize it, etc. It even does that weird thing like Apple does where it will suggest .gifs for you.

I like numbers on the main keyboard too. Or at least if you're gonna make me go to an alt keyboard, make it telephone pad style numbers.

gboard is good shit so far. Far more accurate at swiping than the stock andorid keyboard.

I dunno if its as good as swype, it keeps getting a few words consistently wrong here and there, but its pretty good.
