Did the buyer get that poor thing inspected finally?

He did. Issue with water pan under water heater I replaced 4 years ago. Dummies that installed didn't have it draining properly. Only issue and that would not have shown up when I bought the place 10 years ago.

So this crappy pair of front loading washer/dryer we bought off CL a few months ago for $250 had a bit of an issue a few days ago. The dryer was running and it made 2 sounds like a shotgun going off and then it lit on fire. Time to look for some new ones.

Somebody (previous owner or a redneck Mr. Fixit) may've jumpered across a thermal resistor/fuse in there.

You understand how lint filters work? No - THEY HAVE TO BE CLEANED EVERY TIME!!!
Anyways. That sucks. Glad the most important part of this is ok. ;) So many things that could have happened, not worth speculating. Oh fine - the belt broke(bang sounds), air quit moving and it got too hot.

capacitor blew. Thats always an exciting event. You're likely to find some tiny shard of what looks like red glass around when you replace it

It was on fire where the plug connects btw.

Anyone see any red flags here?

Heating element has been replaced.

^^ do that shit wrong and itll draw more amps than it should, blow the cap, and then overcurrent (hence, fire at plug)
