Maybe someday they'll figure out building a city below sea level that sits both on the coast and the biggest river delta on the continent wasn't a very good idea.

We're so stubborn we can't even acknowledge that anthropogenic climate change is a thing, and you think people will move from below sea level just because of flooding?

Or we can at least agree that the water level isn’t rising, but the land is sinking. There aren’t poles holding the land area up off the ocean floor, so land is gonna sink.

There are islands "sinking", compressing, whatever. I remember seeing a story about some down here in the gulf somewhere .


That's how you take a small something that is true and try to use it to explain a big something where it's not true. Probably some academic, psychological term for it.
