Agggh - Need IT Help

I have an XP Pro machine that got a nice corrupted registry and drivers.. blah blah..

I have a backup on tape and hd. I can I restore from this backup without going to the tape (extremely slow).

Machine has a clean install of XP Pro SP2.

This machine was setup properly and the end user fucked with it after it crashed so the necessary steps for recovery weren't taken.

Any help would be great.

Does the machine boot? What are the symptoms?

My immediate solutions:

if you don't need to recover data you should just reimage

if you do need to recover data then I recommend Bart's PE or a side install of the os.

just called you back...agreed with above... run repair or reimage if no data needs to be saved

the repair kept failing. nothing I could do would get it to repair the installation.

The whole HD was copied on to another HD. If it was my machine, I would've started from scratch. But at this point it will take longer to do it that way.

Currently, I'm recovering from the tape. It's just sloooooow.


BTW: I am technical and I know how to fix this. Just wanted another option.

What error were you getting when starting the machine? What error in the repair? You suck at info.

What error were you getting when starting the machine? What error in the repair? You suck at info.

disk write errors. crc errors. permission errors. management listening to me when a new machine was bought error. PEBKAC error. Replace End User error.
