There is cause for concern - you have to really educate yourself on the various body parts and growth patterns to make safe identification. Maitake is "hen-of-the woods". Chicken-of-the-woods" is quite different.
Maitake grows on recently dead trees, adjacent to the ground. Chicken grows from a few inches to several feet off the ground, out of side of recently dead trees. We also gather "turkey-tail" for tea which is different again.
Maitake. $14+/lb to dealer.

The mushrooms? Yeah, not for everybody. Really pissed about the one I went back for - would have easily got $300+ from the mushroom broker.
