Food Tre's kitchen, episode one: Making Bacon (lotsa pics) - NO APRILS ALLOWED

Does the skin taste good at all or just smoky?

And how expensive was your slicer?

jusr smoky, with a bit of fat right under it. Perfect for a pot of beans or chili.

The slicer I got super cheap - $40. I buy pre-cooked hams or small roasts and cut them up for lunch meats - you save a ton of money that way. I wish the slicer was a bit bigger though, I cant slice a whole piece of belly, so I cut off some of the end and keep those as slab bacon, as seen in the pics.

Can you eat it raw? I guess you buy it cured? :iono:

No, I bought it raw, then I cured it, that's where the redness in bacon comes from. you could probably eat mine raw (lol) but I wouldn't recommend it. o like the crispiness.

Apparently you can eat most meat raw just fine. One of the crazy dog people I know who feeds her dogs raw eats raw meat also

We recently had a big beef recall up here in Canada because of e.coli tainted meat coming from a certain factory. One of the local cases of E.coli linked to the company was someone I know who had the exact same belief.

She would buy cheap roasts from the store to feed their dogs, and eat it themselves, preaching and annoying the fuck out of everyone around them with her claims that cooked meat was unnatural, less healthy, caused cancer and all sorts of other things. Does your crazy dog friend also insist that cavemen never cooked their meat?

where in Canada are you? Ottawa here.

The huge thing about the recall is that one facility processes almost 30% of canadian beef, which is fucking retarded. Makes me happy I pay more for good local product when I can.

I'm in the Halifax area.

I buy my beef from a local farm outlet, only costs a couple bucks a pound more for your average prime rib or porterhouse, but it's absolutely worth it. 100% grass fed beef is a hell of a lot better than the corn fed shit that comes from out west, color's a lot darker and it's got a ton more flavor.

I know! The local Superstore is actually advertising their beef as corn-fed, like it's a good thing, WTF
