FYI National Debt

they also thought the sun revolved around the earth back then. empires rose and fell without 95% of the world even knowing about it. comparing apples and oranges

Pretty sure they knew astronomy during the times of the English Empire.

But this is all besides the point. Unless something wipes out all humans, there will always be trade. Life will go on.

Honestly, the world will switch to the euro, China will not be able to export as much to America, but they will find newer markets. Africa might rise up, we might rise up. There are still many goods to be made and plenty of people to consume them without America. The world is not going to sit stagnant with America out of the picture. The world moved on after Roman Empire. The world move on after the English Empire. The world will move on after the American Empire.
uh huh, sure

it's not about sitting stagnant, it's about the global economy grinding to an abrupt and devastating halt if ours collapses.

To a halt? No. Taking a huge hit? Yes.

It's not like the US will vanish from the face of the earth. It will continue on, albeit vastly different. Dramatic lifestyle changes will be the biggest change. But all in all, everyone will continue on.

Yes, that dramatic lifestyle change is exactly what I'm referring to. Caused by the global economy coming to a grinding halt. When it happens, we will still fare better than 99% of the world's population and probably be the ones to recover the quickest and bail everyone else out.

Are we done with the ridiculously uninformed generalizations about rich and poor people yet? I'll check back in an hour.

Further evidence of how Wallstreet is fucked up.

Why? you don't produce anything, you are simply a consumer market. You'll be more fucked than the rest of the world.

We don't produce anything because we don't have to. But we still have more natural resources than almost any other country and the strongest manufacturing infrastructure humanity has ever seen...we just don't use it.

We are a consumer and innovation market. ;) We'll bounce back because we have the biggest buffer, safety net and our standard of living is already so high that even in the worst depression this nation has seen all we had to do was go to fucking war and shit magically turned around.

So basically, if/when the shit hits the fan, we're going to blow up a lot of stuff and then sit back with our Margaritaville's waiting for the brits, frogs, krauts and aussies to ask for help. And we will because not only are we the world's emergency police force but we're also the world's biggest charity provider.

You're welcome.

lmfao. I wonder what it's like living in your fantasy world.

When my fantasy world's economy folds in on itself like a flan in a cupboard, your fantasy world will be begging mine for help.

How pessimistic.

Keep racking up debt as see how dramatically the value of your dollar drops.

You don't have to cut programs completely. There are plenty of areas where money can be saved while maintaining services.

people want to cut the budget and at the same time add some seriously expensive programs and beef up other failed programs (public education comes to mind)...

can't have your cake and eat it too.

i predict our second rise will be off of our food production. few droughts and shit around the world and bam. corn will be worth a shit ton more than oil.

especially if bp keeps killing the ocean.

Sorry mate, world recession just hit and we were one a handful of country that didn't need any help because it didn't affect us like it did you guys. @ your weak ass economy

Well I'm not one of those.

Uh huh. Didn't need any help.

Except for all the money your reserve bank had to inject into the market.

But again, even in its weakest state our economy is still the primary backbone of the entire global economy. Yours would not survive.

yes you are  you just think that what you want should be forced on everyone else, because somehow a guy that doesn't even vote here has any right to determine what's important to american citizens. because your ideas are right on the money and you are completely and utterly fucking infallible. climb off the cross, mate, use the wood to build a bridge and get the fuck over it

We had a surplus prior to the recession.

And I guess you haven't noticed all the other countries out there trying to move away from the greenback because of it's diminishing value. At some point the global currency will change to the Euro and then no one will care all that much when the US drowns itself in debt.
