So I was looking over my taxes and I was wondering if anyone has used H&R Block or some other tax person for their taxes. Most times I just use Turbo Tax, but this year is complicated with the reimbursed job transfer/move thing.

Have you used them? What was your experience?

Oh jesus. Don't do it.

I worked for Jackson Hewitt for years at their Technology HQ. You don't even want to know how either company certifies their 'tax professionals'. They also focus on people with high EIC returns (these same people get convinced to take a class that lets them become - you guessed it - next years tax preparers). that is their bread and butter.

Go to a real accountant. Stay the fuck away from H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt. You would be far better off screwing up with Turbo Tax then using either of these sheisters.

Just do it online. For free. It will cover all that, as its really not that complicated.

I am trying to fill out Turbo Tax to see if I can pull it off with the new reimbursement stuff and I will see what I can pull off, but I am worried because it isn't that simple to roll in.

I did the free TT online. I certainly remember it covering that, but didn't actually go into it.

Not to piggy back on this thread but I am considering a tax professional this year as I owe taxes AGAIN. I need to know what I'm doing wrong. Any tampons have a suggestion as to whom to visit? I owe 113 so obviously if the tax person would be 80 bucks it wouldn't be worth it.

yeah, TT Federal goes through the entire 'did you move & have related expenses' thing.

It should cover you. Wouldn't hurt to do them in TT, and then just have an accountant review it. that will save you money right there.

Stop claiming so many exemptions. Its simple really!

Your deductions on your w2 is set to 1. You are not witholding enough (if you want a refund).

Actually, owing a couple hundred dollars at the end of the year is more to your advantage than getting a refund.

This is exactly what I was thinking about doing.

file head of household and claim your dog as a dependent

Kids are awesome with tax refunds! You guys don't even want to know what I'm getting back on Feb. 19th.

Not with H&R block you're not.

Actually, I've used their online tax filing program for 2 years. It was super easy and I'd recommend it UP UNTIL THIS YEAR, because I had a problem...

I used TT this year ONLY because I ran into a problem with my son's name, (that I changed last year), not matching what the IRS had on file. H&R could not help and offered help 2-3 days out with their "technical dept." It was terrible. I went to TT and had the same problem with filing, but at least they told me what the problem was and let me re-efile about 4 times until the IRS finally accepted his name change! H&r wouldn't let me and charged me 41.00!
