Flea

Even if you kill the fleas, they WILL MOVE BACK IN. It's cause you live in a drought area with sandy soil. Your pet is a roving flea magnet, load that dog up with insecticide, keep the ac on, you can use borax on rugs, but also keep everything vacuumed.

There is a chemical called methoprene they treat your house with that keeps the flea eggs from hatching, works pretty well. You have to remember that the fleas you see are only half of the fleas there are. Most of them are eggs, and you cant kill the eggs, they are like impervious. All you can do is dehydrate them (doesnt work outdoors) or keep them from maturing (frontline, advantage, various other chemicals).

Last spring, when the dry wall installers left, they left the yard infested with fleas. For a couple of days the kid and I were forced to do flea checks any time we headed out to the car. I would find and kill about 5 or 6 each time. Of course the darn things were following us into the house as well. We were infested big time.

Any how, long story short - tobacco dust. I paid $25 for 5lb bag of tobacco dust and I spread that shit all over the yard and perimeter of the house. Treated the inside of the house with bombs and some heavy vacumming. Fleas were gone in a couple of days.

One word of warning - whatever you treat the yard with, use some protection for yourself when you spread it. I had a headache for three days after spreading the tobacco dust sans glove or face mask. Yeah nicotine poisoning.

word, thanks.. and i know it's been a particularly bad season in florida for fleas.

thanks for all the advice.. i picked up Frontline yesterday (switching from advantage) and also treated the yard this morning with some flea stuff (not seven dust, which i couldn't find).

Does borax in a paper plate kill em? Ja heard that and so now I have two enormous boxes of borax at my house..

I went to the pet store and picked up an organic flea powder and spray. I sprayed down the pet beds and put powder on the carpet and asked that my complex spray for fleas outside. I haven't seen them since and that was 3 years ago.

I hear that putting a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner helps as well.

when we had two cats several years ago they somehow got fleas. i was ripely pregnant and poor spange had to borax the entire house (two stories) and vacuum it every single day for two weeks. it was a bitch and i hate fleas.

No, borax kills them by drying out their eggs, you spread it around in like cracks and stuff. It's odorless, works better for ants though cuts up their insides.

Flea shit in vacuum is a RIP OFF, your vacuum, sans anything else kills them, just remember to change the bags once every 14 days.

Forgot about nicotiene it works for almost all insects. Especially MOTHS. THe outdoors ones. We have them so bad here.

Garden sprayer and dersban, malathion, diasinon or whatever is as good. You may have to do it a couple of times, but if you can't afford Orkin, that's what you do.

sprays wash away with the rain, lay down the stuff you use in seeders and stuff and it'll take care of all your insects for the summer.

i used to prefer carpets before going to hardwood floors.

that has more than one meaning btw.

i can get them sooo clean with so little effort... and keep them that way.

Our house is mostly tile so it feels icky when I don't wear shoes and we haven't cleaned in days. ... but I do prefer hardwood floors. :hi2u:
