My girlfriend and I have decided we want a stripper pole in my room. We want to be able to put it in and out somehow, and also I live in an apartment, so we can't just bolt it into the floor or the ceiling (which also has asbestos, btw).

So my question now is what kind of base I need to make it so it won't tip over. So let's say I'm on it ( ), I weigh 175 pounds (when naked), then how the hell do I calculate how much weight I need in the base and how far from the pole? I mean, if I spin around the pole then I could exert more than 175 pounds of lateral force, right? But then I think it essentially depends on how fast I'm spinning. Someone go clock a stripper's rotational speed for me, and then report back here.

She weighs less than me, so if it works for me, it will work for her. (An important consideration  .)

A pole affixed to a base is like that old thing where you put weights out on a ruler, right? Where the distance times the force equals the torque on the fulcrum? So the farther out I put the weight in the base, the better. Right?

I think I found out why strip clubs aren't run by strippers. The physics suck.

(Seriously though, if you have some ideas, I don't want it to fall over and I also don't want to have to pull out something that weighs 300 pounds to put it up.)

If its gonna work it needs to be connected to the floor AND the ceiling. Otherwise Itll just tip over. Unless you have like a 500lb concrete base or something.

:p

It depends. How wide do you want to make the base? The wider you make it, the less it has to weigh to counteract your forces...

exactly, you could just make a base out of a few sheets of plywood I would assume

I think as a guy you should always do the stripper pole while wearing at least a speedo or some form of underwear.

As you spin around your dong swinging out will throw off your rotation calculation.

Plus you slide down and your nuts drag down the pole and that's gotta hurt.

seriously

a dude on a stripper pole is just going to look absolutely fucking ridiculous

Wide base is your best bet, but you have to make sure that the anchor to that base will be able to stand some serious torque, or you will just rip the pole out of the base and wind up being an embarassing news headline.

That being said, I would never recommend doing anything on a stripper pole that is temporary in nature that doesn't involve a solution that includes permanent anchor points in both floor and ceiling.

If it's only fixed at the base it's going to flex. Well more than it would if secured at both ends.

It will end poorly.

i would devise a temporary solution that involves a wide base with a robust attachment between pole and base, and also a screw extension on the top that can put pressure along the pole between floor and ceiling similar to how those chin up bars unscrew to stick inside a door frame, or to how a shower curtain rod unscrews to stick between shower walls.

it definitely needs to include some locking u joints

I just wanted to say locking u joints for some reason

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I decided to try and see if I could make it work basically on tension by using a screw extension. So I went to home depot and spent $40. The problem is that the assembly is about 2" too long, because I didn't realize the coupling extension doesn't actually go down to 0" :tard: So I'm going to go back sometime later and get a smaller pole, then see how it turns out.

For the base I'm using this, since I got it way cheap:

Uuuh it's pretty small, I know. I'm hoping I don't have to actually drill into it. I just want it in the room anyway, so if it ends up not working out, then I can just put it to the side and make a better base.

If anyone knows a creative way that I can drill into it, then later cover up the holes, that would be great.

Also I don't plan to be on it very much :p Come one people, I mean ... fair is fair if she wants it. (And also, I didn't want to post her weight.)

So what's a locking u joint?
