I'm pretty sure we all know this by now, but this article cracked me up.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- PepsiCo Inc. will spell out that its Aquafina bottled water is made with tap water, a concession to the growing environmental and political opposition to the bottled water industry. According to Corporate Accountability International, a U.S. watchdog group, the world's No. 2 beverage company will include the words "Public Water Source" on Aquafina labels.

"If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it's a reasonable thing to do," said Michelle Naughton, a Pepsi-Cola North America spokeswoman.

Pepsi Chief Executive Indra Nooyi told Reuters earlier this week the company was considering such a move.

Pepsi's Aquafina and Coca-Cola Co's Dasani are both made from purified water sourced from public reservoirs, as opposed to Danone's Evian or Nestle's Poland Spring, so-called "spring waters," shipped from specific locations the companies say have notably clean water.

the water in our kitchens here at work is all filtered...I have a gallon purifier/dispenser in my fridge at home

i used to work in a plant that bottled aquafina. when the place was opened (long before aquafina existed... we bottled under many labels) the person who chose the site put a pin in a major city then found the cleanest water within 60 miles and built the plant there. it is cleaner than the tapwater in the city, but in the community where the plant is, aquafina and tap water are identical (except that our wells are around 3000 feet deep whereas most homes have wells only a tenth that deep). It comes from the same aquifer and is just pumped out of the ground, filtered, ozonated and bottled. The ozonating makes it taste like crap btw. The water has to sit for a few hours before the ozone breaks down and it tastes normal again.

I kinda dont see the point, its filtered tap water but its still filtered. Its not like you really think you are getting water from the highest mountains slowly drained into each individual bottle. In fact with all the wildlife that would be kinda sick, lol

You're missing the point. The stigma of bottled water is that it comes from pure spring water, not public reservoirs.

forum crossover post?

i think the point of bottled water isn't that it comes from an exotic locale, it's that people finally decided that high fructose corn-syrup wasn't the best thing for quenching thirst. i drink bottled water in situations where i need the convenience of a pop machine or 7/11 but don't want to drink juice, coffee or pop. ultimately waters aren't that different from each other anyway. there's only minor differences in minerals and whatnot. most of it is still H2O.

True. I guess I did kinda miss the point then but have always just figured bottle water was normal water but filtered.

I am sure they do a higher filtering then just normal tap water right?

 this is why aquafina and dasani are the most disgusting brands of bottled water out there. I go out of my way to avoid those
