I think its a wonderful sign that right after the US gets through bashing the hell out of gay rights on Tuesday that Mexico City decides to allow civil unions. Granted, the PAN controls Mexico City (the pan being secular/liberal) and Mexcio City is the most liberal city in all of Mexico. Nevertheless though, it's still a sign of how slow America is in adapting to change in how we view people.

The problem is that many feel it's an abuse of basic human rights, something that our Constitution is supposed to protect from the masses.
The US hasn't abused (and isn't continuing to abuse) anyone before so this is different and all new.
I think basic human rights are a universal matter that transcend law. That being said, my original post's intent was to say that I think people voted illogically. It is a negative reflection on American society that we would withhold something as basic as marriage and its accompanying legal entitlements from someone simply because of their sexual preference.
