Isn't it all painted?
not actually common practice to paint popcorn. But then it gets gross and collects dust and grime over the years, and people paint it rather than removing it, which makes it damn near impossible to remove.

Is there a decent writeup on how to do it?

I have a brick patio that needs re-leveling and I think I might just go that route, as it looks nicer than the stuff I got.
It's so easy that I didn't even have to ask you guys anything. The instructions are on the box.

I did 20x20 (I think) concrete pavers on top and poly sand. You can do the edging around the sides like Mike did, but mine were heavy as fuck and all locked in by the sand so I skipped it. I just caulked the exterior joints so the sand wouldn't leak out while the grass was growing back.

Oh right, real styro popcorn. I was thinking of my mudded ceilings that people call popcorn anyway. That shit obviously gets painted.

The kids' rooms and the office are painted and retextured (walls and ceiling). The hallway's ceiling is painted and retextured. Now I've got everything out of my bedroom and it's fucking obnoxious. Probably should have done mine first. At any rate, it's the last part to get scraped of its popcorn and retextured, so just another couple days and I'm done with that part, then I get to paint. FUUUUUCK.

Today's scraping the existing texture and hanging a new piece of drywall where there was a roof leak some years ago (way before I moved in).

Fuck, I hate construction.

Anyway of you want to paint fast get your kids to do the walls and do all the detail stuff.
Not happening, because the last time I asked the kid to do that, I ended up with a massive blue stain on the carpet where he accidentally kicked the paint can over.

At any rate, the skim coat is up, the popcorn is gone, and the sagging sheet (which would be upper right in the picture) is replaced.

Gonna paint a couple walls while @AppleTurkey heads to karate so that there's that much less to do.

Hot water heater gave up last night. Set off the leak detector so my phone screamed at me at 11:40pm and woke me up.

Turned it off, drained it. No more dribbling out the bottom. No damage done.

Get a new one tomorrow along with a neutralizer we were going to do in the spring.

The joys of homeownership.

If you don‘t have leak detectors, I highly recommend them.

This is the second time they’ve come in handy for us.

Welp, the popcorn is finally gone from the house.

Now I've got 3-ish rooms to finish painting. Got about 3/4 of the master bedroom done - haven't edged the ceiling, the West wall or the West side of the entry to the master bath; haven't done the hallway walls or the master bath ceiling or walls at all yet.

Hmmm, my water softener is right next to my water heater. Probably not a bad idea.
ive got one under every sink, one by the shower, and one each at the well pressure tank, and hot water heater, and the whole house humidifier
