There's iron in the hills, easy to get ore into the top from the nearby hill, that stream runs to the Allegheny River in a mile or two. There's all kinds of ruins of colonial and early US stuff in Penn's Woods, almost all of the forests have been cut down at least once since European arrival. That furnace burned an acre a day for 100 days a year. I forget when it was active, didn't take a picture of the sign.
