I used to sing bass in a doowop group as a young man. Had the black pants and the white shirt and the red suspenders and the red bowtie and the whole nine yards. Were good too, could make 50 bucks each just serenading somebody for their birthday or whatever.
Then I'd go play bass in my bar band, take 4 hours to make the same 50 dollars but we got served liquor and got to do naughty things with "older" (early 20's) girls.
So I got to kind of play both sides of the fence doing the sort of "aren't those nice boys" doowop thing then do bar gigs and end up fucking some mostly legal chicks in a Malibu or Ltd wagon or something.

I mainly like his early stuff like with The Last Heard and Bob Seger System It worked with the times.
Oh I like him too I'm not disparaging the guy or anything just if you find yourself in a small town bar in Indiana or southern minnesota/Iowa or something and you want to grab the crowd just play some seger. Works every time. Don't know why but it does.

It was good music for the times and he never tried to deny or write out his midwestern roots. I personally think the mid 70's stuff got a bit poppish - lots of fun, less feels. But hey, he was riding high - Like A Rock. He's the Springsteen of the midwest. Springsteen is the Seger of the East Coast.
I saw him in 76. Great concert if not for the aggressive girl my "friend " set me up with as a blind date. Jesus Christ man - you know I KNOW her, she stalks me between classes you asshole!!
