Jeez, tough crowd at this place.

I point out how weirdly staged the two geriatrics and their handlers chose to present the democratic rebuttal, and it’s as though I called your moms ugly or something. Sorry folks, but I wasn’t alone with that assessment.

And from that it’s distilled that I (or my kind?) vote by looks, or avoid voting for someone because of their look. That’s just ridiculous to come up with.

Those two are past their prime and are full of shit. I can’t vote for them, or their opponents, but if they were in my district I would not vote for either one, and it isn’t based on their looks.

Eat me

People have been voting based on looks as far back as Lincoln. Not saying that everyone does, but considering the status of politics in the US I'd wager that the amount that do is scarily higher than either of us would like.

It's part of the appearance of professionalism, the appearance of competence, and other things.

Look how many people were surprised at trump "appearing presidential." If people weren't focused on looks, why would that matter?

In Trump’s case, it’s about behaviors looking presidential, not physical appearance.

I only am commenting on the “people sell drugs to make money” part.

That’s not the initial reason people deal drugs. People deal drugs to do drugs. That is the main reason. A dealer that doesn’t use is a unicorn. After money is being made, it becomes the focus, but it isn’t what draws people to dealing.
Surely they still have to pay for it. They make enough on their end to make it worth while? Legal retail marks up prices by 50% or more. I would imagine distributors would catch on to anything better and bump the price up on the dealers.

Maybe the best way to battle drugs is with high school economics/business classes. Better start in middle school actually.

Drugs are commonly marked up 100-1000%, depending on quantity bought and size/quantity being sold.. E.g. Dealer buys a lb of weed for X, marks it up about 100% when selling in ounces. 150% for 1/2s, 175% for 1/4s. Some people can make $400 selling $5 joints, from a <$200 ounce of weed.

Agreed with @Immigrant - most people deal drugs so they can use those same drugs on the cheap. It's like a home-based business owner writing off the cost of the toilet paper they use at work.;)

My biggest beef with these assholes is they've got some sort of vague "western culture" idea in their head that they think everyone should be forced to assimilate into.

To me, American culture is freedom and liberty. Which means that provided people obey the laws of the place they're free to do whatever the fuck they want.

It's very well documented that appearance is what turned the tide when JFK beat Nixon. Nixon was targeted by everyone to win and had a sizable lead. But during their TV debate Nixon was super sick and looked like hell. After that his numbers went to the shitter and never came back. If it wasn't for that debate he very well would have beat JFK.

Another was with GHB against Clinton and Perot. After people saw him on TV with his appearance and his constant attitude of checking his watch his numbers tanked.
