Clearly your memory ends at 10 years. You don’t remember the public option being taken out of the original draft and progressives losing their shit over it, obviously. The first handful of drafts wouldn’t even pass with only dem votes because they aren’t also in the pockets of lobbyists and election contributors.

It happened. That’s why I remember it. It seems you have based your memories on only half the facts, and some of those may not be accurate.

Isn’t the president the one who gets the applause or blame, no matter who actually wrote it?

I could totally see Trump using a real typewriter.



Actually, scratch that.
He would be using a Dictaphone. The "secretary" with cleavage falling out everywhere on the other end would be using the typewriter.

And somewhere there would be the intoxicating aroma of somebody cranking out copies off the big spinning drum of the mimeograph machine.

She wouldn't be using the typewriter there, the clacking would distract. She would be writing in shorthand to type it out at her desk later

Probably right.
I just remember my Mom being able to type, accurately, as fast as a normal person talked.
The electronic IBM machines with the metal ball that had all the letters on it she'd finish typing something and the machine would still be hammering away for a couple seconds trying to catch up with her.

Mom got her current job with the city because whoever posted the ad forgot to remove the requirement that they know shorthand for dictation. Mom was the only person "fully qualified per the job posting" or whatever the criteria was for the city, so she got the job

Dictaphone was kind cool, I was at the tail end of that era, we were using micro-cassettes, no short hand. The better ones had the pitch correction so you could listen/type at double speed but not be listening to a chipmunk. You could turn pich correction off if you wanted something inane to chuckle about for a moment at work.:D
