Ted Bundy and a few other wack jobs took victims in broad daylight. Sometimes in front of other people going about their business.
A lot of people said Ted was a nice looking trust worthy guy.
I'm sure some of his 50 some odd victims thought it was unlikely he was dangerous.
I'd say its uncommon not unlikely for things like this to go bad. Always good to use caution. In this day and age people should understand why a woman alone would be cautious around strangers.

I agree it's good for them to be aware and pay attention what's going on around them. Even if only 1% of us are true wackjobs that still amounts to a bunch of zeros to the right of the comma in a population this size.
I also submit it will be far more effective and lead to a better personal life and a better society to train them to defend themselves against the off-chance creep rather than view anyone who hits on them as a direct physical threat.
Tough balance to strike for a loved one, especially a wife or daughter.

My dad said kick in the knee, or stomp the foot where it meets the ankle because it's easy to miss the balls. NOT that I would have kicked @strawberry love 's Home Depot creep. I probably would have done exactly what she did (except I'm too weak to load the salt bags.)

Apparently this is good advice. Someone told me it's about 12lbs of pressure (read: not that much) at an off angle, straight through and do not stop, to fuck that knee up and bring anyone down.

Bend a knee (or ankle, or elbow) the wrong way and theres no doubt who's in control of the situation. Balls can move around and absorb strikes. Bones and joints can't.
You might miss kicking them if they're up to no good and expecting it. But you'd surely take down some genuinely nice people.
Yes you have to kick (or punch) THROUGH the target (I took Tae Kwon Do for a time as a kid, and that's how you break a really really thin board.)

Did anyone see the self protection clip where the guy is telling the armed ladies in their first defense class, fuck everything you've been told. An armed badguy doesn't wear body armor on their crotch. You keep firing at their crotch until they stop or you're empty. That's it.

Hint:. The martial arts people that look impressive breaking boards strike them along the grain instead of across the grain. They just concentrate enough force in the right spot. It really takes little force. Just like it takes little force to break a human bone joint if you apply that force in a direction the joint isn't strong.
Don't need to be big and tough at all. Just apply a little force concentrated in the right spot and direction. Kind of like how people can lift big, heavy stuff if they do it the right way but then screw up their back by just stepping wrong without the added weight.
Or you could totally fuck up a guy who just wanted to help you load some heavy stuff in your car because you are hot.
