Ontopic Fracking and Earthquakes

And to play a BIIIIG devils advocate, are they actually preventing larger earthquakes from happening later?!?! That also seem slike it could be the case.

Oh god, really? :waw:

well, to be fair, the earth really doesnt give a shit. Its gonna keep existing no matter what. People on the other hand, might not keep existing. When we say "youuuurree damaging the eeeearrrrth" what we really mean is "you're making the earth inhospitable to our specific species."

It's a huge rock of sorts. Of course it doesn't care. It will keep on doing it's thing whether we're here or not.

Nature adapts pretty well.

Even humans.

We used to live off of actual food we found in forests, or bashed with a rock/stabbed with a spear.

Now we exist on extruded "meats" and other substances created in giant vats.
It's the same stuff

If we went from eating plants to eating rocks that would be like.. a change.

@Floptical So if it is indeed related, do we stop fracking? This is our first real ability to get rid of coal and transition to NG and we know for sure that coal is actively destroying our environment in pretty big ways.
From what the article said, it's the wastewater injection causing the issue. We should stop doing that.

Not only does it cause the issue, but it depletes the available water on the surface...

California's drought issue is mostly weather, but the massive water use of the fracking industry there has it's hand in being part of the problem as well

Agreed, I've often wondered why they use potable water for this process. Why not use salt water or wastewater from some other industrial process? There has to be a better way.
