FYI Co-pilot intentionally crashed plane into mountain!

As for government usage of funds? Its completely fucked. There is so much waste, and zero effort to save. Bureaucracy actually prohibits you from trying to save money, and punishes you if you do. There is enormous overhead, and anyone that the government does business with knows they can rake them over the coals, and charge triple, and get away with it by playing the right cards that line up with the regulations the bureaucracy imposes.

I think anyone you ask thats not a politician making up a bullshit answer who works for the government would agree.

actually we make very little off of government work, and it costs us way more to do it because of all the bureaucracy. I've gone over this argument with examples a half a dozen times in the past though if you look up my posts, no desire to get into it again. it's a pain in the ass and none of it's high margin work compared to everything else we do. the only upside is it's usually available because the government owns more buildings than anyone else and they constantly have improvement programs going to keep them up to par.

by far the most expensive thing we sell is man hours, and it takes us twice as many man hours to do any given government project. not only that, but where we work directly with the private sector, we have multiple OTHER parties involved with the government... adding even more man hours to the project (although the others are charging outside of us, so I don't even know what the true cost is). I can understand this practice in certain parts of gov, but not with what we do.

They run that one size fits all mentality though.

fair enough, i make no argument that there isnt a reason that the primes bill triple the reasonable rate, ive never worked for the contractor, so i dont know the reasons behind that number.

applies to all politicians equally by the way. Democrat, republican, whatever.

The only thing feeding most of them is greed for money, and desire for power.

yeah. I wish they were only paid the 'average' income & compensation for their state.

It used to be that you'd work for the gov't for considerably less $, but knew you got a good health plan. Now, it's nobel to say 'We should really have a better compensation plan, and our healthcare, and, and, and. . . so that we are better workers.' *insert eye roll here.*

But dude, if you could really double your compensation, why not???

stability.

I guess im not part of the "hop jobs every two years" generation, despite my age matching up with it. I've been here for more than 10 years now and like the consistency, and plan to finish out my term.

Plus, if you jumped out into the private sector, where you're at, you'd likely be contracting to the Federal Government anyhow.

i need to get back to the important stuff :( i've been dealing too much with managing people and money and resources lately. Im good at it, but i dont enjoy it .

@APRIL and @Mr. Asa could make bank if they decided to open a woman owned veteran small business, and the pot only would get sweeter if they could get someone to diagnose fly with a mental disability so it could be a woman owned disabled veteran business.

Only place you wouldnt win is because you're all white as the driven snow, so no minority status for you.
I have a friend who is a legally blind black woman starting a non-profit. I told her the SBA would probably hurt themselves throwing barrels full of cash in her direction.

Thank you. This is what I was getting at.

It's the 'we've alocated $1,000,000 to do a study on how coca cola effects ants.' type of crap that to me is like - Why isn't THAT being spent on healthcare instead? But the reason it's not being spent on healthcare is because the gov't doesn't have to 'earn' the $, just convince a few people that someone else should pay for that along with their healthcare.
Yeah fuck science!

The problem with thinking that stuff is dumb is that you never know what comes out the other end. While that study means nothing to us, it could mean something meaningful to another sciencest that could use it to add value. Fuck if we studied ants better maybe the TCP/IP protocol might have been developed even quicker/faster/better?

That's expensive.
But it's an investment. Modern life as we know it is a result of government spending into things no one knew would ever be valuable.

Consider how research into the mating habits of a particular species of beetle helped develop the heat shield used for the Gemini spacecraft, which if they hadn't worked would have spelled the end for the moon race and delayed the development of modern telecommunications and computing.

Wait, I'm a woman and my husband is a veteran. I want bank.
