When anyone mentions the vaccine/autism link, just tell them what actually happened:
- A piece of shit scientist, Andrew Wakefield, filed a patent on a single-shot measles vaccine. Interestingly, the patent states that the MMR vaccine causes crons/colitis and autism - and it was filed for years before his "study" took place.
- Unfortunately measles is covered in the MMR shot everyone gets, and he wasn't gonna make any money off his new vaccine design, so he declares war on the MMR vaccine. He decides to create a bunch of irrational fear surrounding the MMR vaccine, driving people away from it and having them use individual vaccines instead - including his fancy new patented measles vaccine.
- He approached fellow piece-of-shit lawyers and said "hey, know any kids with autism? we can get their parents to sue the shit out of the medical establishment, using my made up study as evidence, and you'll make tons of dough" - in return, they give him over half a million bucks US for his study, using money set aside for legal defense of the poor.
- He fabricates his "MMR causes all these horrible things!" paper, and releases it in a scientific journal. He even coins a new term "autistic enterocolitis" for his new made up syndrome and comes up with a "test kit" that he can sell for it.
- Lawyers file their lawsuits, and the media goes all over it, and spreads "DO VACCINES CAUSE AUTISM?" panic around the world. Wakefield (this part is made up, but could be true) breaks into maniacal supervillan laughter.
- Scientists worldwide cried "oh shit, something's wrong with the MMR vaccine, we gotta look into this" and repeated his study on a far larger scale. They couldn't replicate his results, because they were fucking made up.
- Eventually someone blew the whistle on wakefield's massive conflict of interest and fabricated evidence.
- Sadly, "DO VACCINES CAUSE AUTISM?" is still in everyone's minds, "Wakefield gets it in the ass" didn't get any attention in the media, and nobody's capable of critical thought or researching what they read these days. So the fucking thing won't die.
TLDR: "vaccines cause autism" is a made-up claim from a piece of shit scientist who wanted to drive people away from the established vaccine so he could make a ton of money.
