I feel like that story is bullshit. No way enough ipads are being bought by students to cause bandwidth issues. Unless they have really crappy wireless networks.

I just got through totally upgrading our wireless network, frickin replacing over 200 aps, and I'm still going to add in more due to a few series of apple laptops have poor wireless antennas but not because of any bandwidth issues. I'll have to glance later and see how many ipads show up.

They buy an iPad for the same price as a laptop, and all of a sudden students are utilizing bandwidth too much? What, none of them had computers prior to the iPad?

UPDATE: Commenter Cintax has pointed us towards this Princeton report, which explains the problem they have with iPads on campus (22 of the 41 iPads, to be precise) are related to DHCP client malfunctions, which causes interference with other devices.

After reading the update and comments, it's not bandwidth issues, but DCHP renewing issues and causing IP conflicts. This is much more plausible.

I do like how GWU doesn't support apple products, full stop
