There was a 'secret' presented to me after the Thanksgiving Day Xbox 360 Amazon debacle. Now, this 'secret' is provided as-is, I have not yet tested it to verify it's veracity.

Evidently you can access some sites using their secure channel, https://blahblah, which receives much less traffic as they are typically not in use. The person that used this trick to get a 360 for $100 has also used it in the past to get hot items from Woot. It may or may not work, but anything is better than staring at the 'Server Busy' page, yah?
